Yacht refit, repairs and refurbishments

The Yacht Refit Department at Berthon is committed to providing an unrivalled service and can deal with your yacht service, maintenance, repair, full yacht refit and boat refurbishment requirements whatever their scale.

Below are the links to case studies about some of the yacht refits and boat maintenance that Berthon have undertaken in the past.

BRYNHILDE, 1958 Fred Parker 10 metre wooden Bermudian sloop

Built 61 years ago, BRYNHILDE has had numerous minor refits and repairs throughout her years, but nothing quite to the extent of her present restoration in our Big Blue Sheds.

AGLAIA, 77ft Bluewater Cruiser Refit

Aglaia, a 77ft 15-year old yacht designed by Rob Humphreys, was sold by Berthon in the autumn of 2015. The new owner wanted her refitted and modernised; accordingly, a delivery crew brought her north to Berthon’s Lymington Shipyard in October 2015. This is the story of her comprehensive restoration, a project that spanned just 9 months and was completed entirely at Berthon.

MITTEN, 8 Ton Gauntlet Refit

Originally built in 1937 by Berthon’s shipyard in Lymington, MITTEN the 33′ Gauntlet arrived late last year for an interesting refit. Top of the list was restoration to her original colour scheme including full UV protection, along with a full makeover and subtle upgrades to the deck gear following her original deckplans. Subtle because she can benefit from some modern systems, yet at the same time maintaining her overall look and feel from the late 1930s.

ROWENA, Grand Banks 42 Restoration

ROWENA’s restoration extended to some quite major work, including topsides and transom restoration, fitting her out with new bulwarks, new teak decks and new flybridge superstructure, painting and finishing.

M.Y. BOUNTY, 1936 Motor Yacht Refit

M.Y. BOUNTY, a TSDY (Twin Screw Diesel Yacht) built by Camper & Nicholson in 1936, arrived at Berthon in September 2005 and left our sheds earlier this year having had a refit that stripped her from stem to stern, individually replacing or repairing every steel frame one-by-one in order to safeguard the teak planking, over 90% of which remains original.

Marine Services

Berthon Boat Company has provided marine services for decades. Berthon works successfully with their government and commercial partners to provide boatbuilding, refits, maintenance and in-service support for clients such as the RNLI, Ministry of Defence (MoD), UK Border Force, Port Authorities and commercial boat operators.

Below are links to recent case studies and articles about new builds, refits and boat maintenance that Berthon have undertaken.

WW2 MGB 81 Motor Gun Boat Restoration

Berthon’s history with the Motor Gun Boats (MGB) and Motor Torpedo Boats (MTB) goes all the way back to 1939 when numerous MGB and MTB hulls and complete boats were built or fitted out at our boat yard during World War Two.

As well as this history, Berthon’s experience was a key factor in MGB81 being restored at our shipyard. Berthon’s traditional shipwrighting knowledge in restoring and refitting boats at our state of the art facilities is unrivalled in the UK

Tactical Personal Water Craft (TPWC)

The Tactical Personal Watercraft (TPWC) has been specially developed to meet the tactical requirements of Special Forces Teams and Law Enforcement Agencies, to provide a fast and highly manoeuvrable platform in open water, surf and riverine environments, resulting in a rapidly deployable capability for surveillance, insertion, extraction, interdiction and search & rescue roles.

Designed with reduced signatures for day and night operations and offer a greater payload, improved performance and superior seakeeping than commercially available PWCs. Increased engine power output provides high-speed capability at full payload, with or without towed sled. The craft are also designed to be either helicopter underslung or air delivered and are capable of being stowed on and launched from a wide variety of road, sea and air platforms.

Design Modifications and Equipment Upgrades

Berthon’s well-established management processes help deliver these services, supporting other government organisations as well as the commercial sector. We can also provide bespoke design services either in-house or working with independent marine design consultants.

In-service Support To Marine Operators

Berthon has extensive experience in the provision of vessel in-service support to various organisations including the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Port Authorities, pilots and other commercial operators. Potential clients can be confident that Berthon has a great team in place that will deliver exceptional service, no matter where the vessel is based.

Novurania 4.3M – Velsheda JK7 RIB Refit

We received the superyacht Velsheda’s Novurania 4.3m RIB, branded JK7 after Velsheda’s famous J-Class sail number, within 24 hours of the container arriving in the UK. The RIB was showing obvious signs of wear and tear to the exterior. Berthon’s in-house team of skilled employees immediately went to work, performing a complete set of repairs and refurbishments.

Pascoe 6m Superyacht Tender Refit and Refurbishment

Berthon stripped out, refitted and refurbished a 6m Pascoe tender for luxury superyacht MY RAHAL. The tender was transported from Pascoe to our facilities in Lymington where it was worked on intensively by the tender project team, who then returned it to the superyacht in pristine condition.
