The Royal Navy’s P2000
August 22nd, 2024
The Royal Navy’s P2000 or Archer class ships are primarily used for training, maritime security tasks and in ambassadorial roles for RN recruitment and outreach events. Berthon provides support to the P2000 fleet as part of a wider Contract, supplying spares and effecting emergency maintenance to the entire fleet alongside annual out of water work on the four west-country based ships.
At Berthon Boatyard, our extensive facilities and experienced work-force make us well-equipped to handle the many and varied demands of P2000 class maintenance. A pre-refit trial is completed following which the Berthon team work with both the crew and the MoD team to put together a work package which fits withing budget and time constraints, both big drivers for any Government project. Tight turnarounds are the norm for P2000s with a standard maintenance period sometimes as short as 21 days! This involves inspecting the hull, engines, and onboard systems. Engine maintenance is a critical component of our service. Our engineers overhaul or replace engines and propulsion systems, ensuring they meet the stringent performance and reliability standards required by the Royal Navy. While the P2000s are in maintenance at Berthon, the crews can take advantage of Berthon office facilities to update their logs and complete other administrative tasks surrounding the work package.
