Gemini FAQs

Why should I consider a Gemini?

For 45 years, Gemini Marine Boats has been building the highest quality, safest and most durable boats for customers around the world. For 35 of those years, they have been proud to partner with NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute).

Since initial orders with NSRI, Gemini has successfully designed, developed and built world class RIBs and supplied them to more rescue organisations on every continent. Gemini RIBs have consistently proven to be the specialised RIB of choice for professional users.

Why are Gemini boat collars (tubes) made out of Hypalon?

Gemini tubes are constructed from Hypalon for superior strength, durability, longevity and a heavier-duty build. The seams are meticulously finished and secured, contributing to increased strength, while the fabric itself is more resilient. Although Hypalon comes at a slightly higher cost, the investment is justified by its unmatched performance. In contrast, PVC is often tailored to meet specific price points, resulting in smaller RIBs. Notably, Zapcat is the only PVC Fabric Tube in the Gemini range. We specifically use 1670 DTEX military-grade Hypalon, surpassing the typically used 1100 DTEX, which offers increased resistance to tears and punctures as well as a prolonged lifespan. The result is a robust and durable RIB, ensuring long-lasting performance.

Are inflatable boats safe and stable?

Absolutely, the safety and stability of inflatable boats were fundamental to their invention. The tubes, designed with separate compartments like the Gemini 880’s seven chambers, ensure that a single puncture won’t compromise overall safety. In rough conditions, the tubes on a RIB serve as effective cushioning, acting as stabilisers. This stability and fendering makes them particularly suitable for manoeuvres such as coming alongside another boat.

What size Gemini should I get?

Choosing the size of a Gemini depends on personal preference and intended use. Consider factors such as the number of people you want to accommodate, equipment requirements, storage space, berth size and if whether you are going to trailer the RIB. Typically, starting with a smaller, manageable size RIB is advisable, and you can scale up as your family or specific needs grow. Currently, our most popular size is the 880, offering an adaptable and preferred option.

Is Gemini a good choice for a commercial boat?

Gemini is an excellent choice for a commercial boat. Renowned for its heavy-duty build and a strong heritage in commercial, search and rescue, and defence applications, it is adaptable for various operations. We offer in-house coding at Berthon and they are easily coded for commercial use. The cost-effectiveness of Gemini stands out compared to other commercial brands. For added protection, consider a cabin RIB or T-Top from Gemini.

What to look out for when buying a RIB?

When purchasing a RIB, focus on a reputable brand, like Gemini. Explore feedback from other owners of the same type of RIB. Also, consider its use by commercial operators and check their lists of existing users to gauge its heritage and reputation. Enquire about the boat’s place of construction for insights into quality, reliability and warranty support.

What is the most Seaworthy RIB?

The seaworthiness of a RIB depends on factors like hull design, build quality, and its classification (Category A, B, or C) indicating suitability for inshore or offshore waters. Assessing the target market of the RIB is crucial. Gemini RIBs are trusted and used rigorously by hard-core operators, which is testament to their durability and exceptional seaworthiness.

Where can I buy new RIBs and spare parts?

You can purchase all new Gemini RIBs and spare parts through Berthon and BHG. As Gemini uses universal marine products, you’ll also find many smaller spares at most chandleries.
