How Gemini Boats helped the Kingsley Holgate Foundation get Mosquitos nets to the remotest corners of Africa
Holgate has founded the ‘Kingsley Holgate Foundation’ which aims to “save and improve lives through adventure” through “humanitarian expeditions that make a difference”.
This has been the focus of his more recent expeditions such as the ‘Africa Rainbow Expedition’ and ‘The Outside Edge Expedition’. This aim has been implemented through programmes such as the ‘One Net, One Life’ campaign which aims to give out thousands of mosquito nets to help prevent malaria simply and cheaply.

As seen in the photo, the Gemini WR 880 was the Rib of choice with Elon Musk’s Space X. The Geminis were designed, built and equipped to recover Astronauts from their capsules as the landed back down to Earth.
Tender Rental is a super yacht support and tender business in St Marten. With a contract to support the Maxi 72 “Proteus” for the Med racing circuit. In an epic journey they shipped their custom Gemini 7.8m RIB to the South of France where they picked up a 6-wheel Land Rover Defender and started the 1700km journey via land to Corfu Greece.
Then by water they then headed to the Italian Coast, Barcelona, Palma, Mahon, Sardinia…a total of over 1200nm! With the longest passage between Mahon and Sardinia being 350nm non-stop and solo!
No Mean feat in any boat, the Gemini faired very well, dealing with testing conditions and a tight timeline, a tribute to the quality and reliability of the Gemini brand.

For those sailing enthusiasts who watched the latest Americas Cup in Bermuda, it would have been difficult to miss that the Rib of choice for the Race Marshals was a cabined Gemini modified and equipped for this unique and high profile roles.

Geminis are out most weeks supporting Regattas, Race Boats and yacht clubs around the globe acting as support boats, chase boats, safety boat, race marshals and training boats. A small flotilla of Gemini travelled to France to see off the the Route du Rhum race. This transatlantic single-handed yacht race, which takes place every 4 years in November. The course is between Saint Malo, Brittany, France and Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
GEMINI MARINE has supported Kingsley’s adventures since his first expedition when he followed the African rift from Cape Town to Cairo. Gemini provided customised expeditionary boats that were required. GEMINI did so with pride in the knowledge that they were supporting the excellent humanitarian contributions that the Holgate family and their crew were making to people in need. Together with GEMINI and Yamaha the Holgates can now reach the unreachable and get in contact with the Africans in need on the smaller villages.

Both ribs were modified to allow easy interoperability with the impressive Damen Axe bow, as well as being fitted with additional seating to carry up to 12 guests.
With a fleet of vessels adventuring the world oceans, whilst fighting good causes the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is a non-profit, marine conservation organization based in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington, in the United States.
Their vessels use direct action tactics and information campaigns to protect marine life and inform the public of their plight. A recent addition to their small fleet includes a Gemini WR880 pictured below.
