Valeting

At Berthon, we recognise that it’s good to arrive for the weekend knowing that you will find your yacht cleaned and gleaming so that you can enjoy using, rather than tidying her. Also, after a cruise or weekend aboard, you may prefer to leave us to pump the bilges, wash the bright work or even do the washing up!

The Boat Care Department at Berthon offers a comprehensive range of yacht cleaning options, whether you are a berth holder requiring a regular cleaning service or a visitor wanting a one-off exterior wash-off, polish or interior yacht valet.

Regular wash-down

Our regular wash down service ensures that your boat is maintained and less likely to suffer from the effects of salt water and algae. This ad-hoc or package service allows you to sign up for weekly, fortnightly or monthly basic wash-downs, whatever suits your preference. The wash essentially consists of a basic soapy wash-down of the entire exterior of the boat, preventing the onset of dirt build-up, black streak staining, blocked drains etc. This preventative measure allows you to use and enjoy your boat without the time or worry of removing salt and dirt after every use, knowing she will be clean for your next use.

Detailed wash-down

This service is a deeper and as it says on the tin, more detailed clean of the topsides and superstructure of the boat, removing any onset of black streaks, build-up of salt residues and any other contamination. Here our valeters open all storage lockers, clean seals and locker channels of dirt and debris, and get into all the nooks and crannies that the non-trained eye might not see. All deck channels will be cleaned, and scuppers (deck drains) washed out ensuring that they drain freely, and do not accumulate puddles of water on the deck.
We would strongly advise a detailed wash-down before carrying out a polish of any kind. Once it is up to superyacht standard, we would recommend keeping on top of it with our regular wash-down service.

Polish and wax

Every six months to one year, make your boat gleam with our polish and wax service. A light polish and a wax compound are used to lift the appearance of the gel coat, giving more depth to its colour, and leaving a glossy finish. Adding wax after the polish protects the gel coat from salt and UV penetration, which can act as a catalyst for its deterioration.

Cut, polish and wax

A cut, polish and wax is aimed at vessels with faded or deteriorated gel coat. Cutting compounds of varying grades can be used to bring faded or ‘flat’ gel coats back to life. Our team will assess the condition of the gel coat as they progress, using different grades of cut as required.
On completion, the polish and wax process is followed to re-instate depth and gloss to the finish of the gel coat and protect it from the elements.

2-part teak treatment

Well-maintained teak is something every boat owner (with a teak deck) aspires to have. Our valeting team are well versed in using 2-part teak treatment. The two-stage process starts with part 1 teak cleaner which is used to take away the natural discolouration of the teak that occurs with time, use and weather. The chemical is carefully applied and lightly scrubbed to remove the build-up of absorbed dirt and muck from the teak.
Part 2 teak renovator is then applied to neutralise part 1 and restore the teak appearance to a new like colour. To further defend your teak after the 2-part treatment, Boracol 10RH is the product used in this instance. The application of Boracol serves as a wood preservative, to treat woodworm, wood rotting fungi and organic growth, but in marine terms is generally used to prevent the onset of algae and growth within the teak decks. For that extra layer of protection, we couldn’t recommend it more.

Interior cleaning

Once you’ve taken care of the exterior, it’s time to focus on the interior. Offered on an ad-hoc basis, cleaning of the interior includes; heads sanitation, galley cleaning and sanitation, woodwork polishing, stainless steel polishing, surface polishing, vacuuming, laundering of bedding and other items, floor cleaning and bilge cleaning is on offer as per the owner’s preference. This is perfect for bringing your yacht’s interior back to life or just to relieve yourself of the tidy-up after use.
